  1. Hey at least we got the fake mystery outta the way. And if the next one is a fake then we’ll just storm the writer’s room and protest.

    1. It was more interesting than a “regular fake mystery”. Morrie programmed the station and he could have dropped hints and clues in there that we haven’t even recognized yet! And Whit and Emily know who is behind everything now!

      1. What makes me think of Novacom is because they used the technology Mr. Whittaker made and put it into the Novabox. Novabox rebranded? I think so

  2. OOkkaay. Here are my thoughts.
I was very confused by this episode, but there’s also a lot to go off of. There are elements of this episode that support the Suzu Mastermind Theory. 1: The title Further from the truth implies that this episode leads the main characters onto the wrong track. It appears to be very obvious that Emily is going to accuse Morrie of being behind the wrongdoers. But what if Morrie is being set up? Suzu is mentioned to know Japanese and therefore she would know how to write haiku. She could have used voice samples from Morrie to create the mysterious voice because she’s his sister. So what if Suzu is trying to set Morrie up? Morrie could know that Suzu is up to something, hence the line “What if someone’s helping us find proof of a wrongdoing. A mystery person helping us solve a different mystery.” Of course if Suzu did program the thing, then that couldn’t have been what Morrie was saying. That would have been Suzu’s words. Unless Morrie really did program the thing and is trying to point the way to Suzu. Or he could just be trying to focus everyone’s attention on himself while someone else is doing something nefarious. Which would also fit into the title Further from the truth. Another thing I noticed is the machine Emily takes an adventure in. Ok first of all, why would Whit have Emily test out a random invention that he didn’t make? That’s just dangerous. Second, around minute 18:27, I’m pretty sure that’s the mysterious voice from the escape room! This again points to either Morrie or Suzu. And lastly, the strange invention is Mr. Whittaker’s technology cobbled together… Like the Novabox maybe?? So I’m still hoping that the Chairman theory is correct… I want it badly. Later, Morrie again deflects Suzu’s question. She says “There’s something you’re not saying.” Morrie avoids her accusation and says “you’re so suspicious.” Sounds like the “Key Suspect!” or “The Good in People.”
There’s one line that got me “Good from bad… just like the escape room.” It reminds me of Morrie’s line from “The Good in People” someone who brings out “the good in people.” I wonder if this particular phrase is being repeated for a reason like the word “truth” was in the episode. One last thing completely unrelated that I wanted to mention, Eugene says he never misplaced his phone before, but he did in “A Thankstaking Story” He had Connie’s phone and misplaced his… Overall, I didn’t really enjoy this episode. It was very confusing. I wasn’t sure what was real and what wasn’t. But it does give a lot to talk about.

    1. Yeah, I noticed that phone thing too. But Morrie didn’t know that, so he guessed that Eugene is the kind of person who’d be very careful with his phone so he programmed it like that.

  3. Lee, I first didn’t like this episode as well, but now that I think about it, it was a good episode. The reason I hated this episode at first was that I had my expectations too high. I think if I went into the episode with low expectations, I’d enjoy it more. Actually, this episode might be substantial to the Rydell saga. Let me explain. First, if Morrie programmed the adventure, then he’d want Emily and Matthew to be reunited. To bring the good out of Emily. Like Marisa stated in the comment above me, The voice in A Sacrificial Escape played. Also, the box that made Emily go on the adventure was similar to mind control, which points back to Novacom, and the nova box. So, this episode further proves the Chairman theory. Don’t make the fact that it was a fake mystery make you hate this episode, it might be more substantial than you think. Also, about Ignoratio Elenchi, it means Red Herring. Which ties into Novacom. Which ties into the Chairman. Anyways, the ending part was very similar to The Key Suspect, and some of the lines were almost the same. I feel like the way Morrie said that Japanese is a beautifully written language is weird. There may be more to that then meets the eye. Or ear. My expectations were too high, but it wasn’t a fake mystery. It was a fake FAKE mystery. This episode shows how manipulative Morrie can be, and what he can do to the town of Odyssey. What I’m trying to say is that you shouldn’t HATE the episode because there was a fake mystery in it. In my opinion, it was not the fake mystery that is the main focus of this episode. It’s the origin. Now, I haven’t heard your reveiw yet, but please don’t say it’s horrible. Some people really like this episode too. That was just my opinion. I this was a substantial episode, but I’m curious to see how you feel about it. In this post, you said you hated it, but give it some time.

    1. Also Morrie said he is good with numbers. TO POINT EMILY TO HIM AND MAKE HIM GO TO JAIL LIKE IN YOUR SCRIPT!!! I think next album will have something even more amazing. Like the Chairman.

        1. I understand. Sorry for being a wet blanket.
But at the same time, this is the only thing I’ve said so far about FFTT on this site. If you can’t bear listening to it… then okay. Don’t listen to it. I’ll be making a post eventually, but I’ll put my responses to your comments in this one.
“Lee, I first didn’t like this episode as well, but now that I think about it, it was a good episode.”
Yeah, you’re right about that. It was as good an episode as, say… Same Mold Story. But seriously, no Odyssey episodes are bad, and the multitude of reasons I have for disliking this one don’t add up to it being a bad episode. “Hate” is a little strong, but it’s how I feel at the moment.
“The reason I hated this episode at first was that I had my expectations too high.”
I think my expectations were reasonable: Don’t let Whit say he doesn’t know what to do with the recording. In this episode: HE DOESN’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THE RECORDING.
“First, if Morrie programmed the adventure, then he’d want Emily and Matthew to be reunited. To bring the good out of Emily.”
Sure, but that’s obvious. It’s not really anything new; it’s what he’d do. Besides, Emily didn’t even reunite with Matthew. She was going to before the program began, but didn’t get the chance.
“The voice in A Sacrificial Escape played.”
Okay, but that’s also obvious. It just means that the same person was behind both experiences, which I already assumed.
“Also, the box that made Emily go on the adventure was similar to mind control, which points back to Novacom, and the nova box. So, this episode further proves the Chairman theory.”
You do have me there. That is a good plot point. Although I will argue that this also isn’t new. We saw a similar plot before (“Things Not Seen”) and a similar device before (“Take Every Thought Captive”). It just means that Morrie has an interest in the portable IS, which is interesting. But, at the same time, Emily’s reasoning that someone who is good with numbers set it all up is very loose and faulty logic. You don’t need to know simple multiplication to program the IS (I can do it; that doesn’t make me capable of programming).
“Don’t make the fact that it was a fake mystery make you hate this episode, it might be more substantial than you think.”
It’s not just the fake mystery, it’s the three wraparound scenes that get me. I’ll think about it, but I don’t think they’re substantial.
“Also, about Ignoratio Elenchi, it means Red Herring. Which ties into Novacom. Which ties into the Chairman.”
I’m not seeing that as applied to FFTT, just Morrie in general. Can you explain?
“Anyways, the ending part was very similar to The Key Suspect, and some of the lines were almost the same.”
          Copycat.
“[It] wasn’t a fake mystery. It was a fake FAKE mystery.”
          Even worse.
“What I’m trying to say is that you shouldn’t HATE the episode because there was a fake mystery in it.”
Right, and I think I’m saying that the fake mystery wasn’t the main reason why I disliked it. But, I do know that if there was no fake mystery, I probably would have been enabled to like it a lot more.
“Now, I haven’t heard your reveiw yet, but please don’t say it’s horrible. Some people really like this episode too.”
Yep, you’re right about that. I usually don’t go straight for the throat on initial reactions, but I did here. I’ll be more objective in my final review.
How about this: “So, what are my thoughts? Give me Bethany’s Flood any day.” 🙂

          1. Lee, in your initial reaction post of “A Sacrificial Escape”, you said this about the voice: “It’s kinda garbled and I don’t know that Whit would be able to know it’s Morrie…” As someone who has also edited the voice in the escape room, no matter what I do, the voice is still not absolutely clear. From Whit’s perspective, he might just believe the audio is a complete mess. Because we, as the listeners, know Morrie is behind everything, we expect the characters to draw the same conclusions. Just because Whit has yet to realize Morrie is the voice does not mean he won’t. Detective Polehaus and Whit are still looking into it and that will seen fruition sooner or later.
No, this episode did not advance the plot as much as the listeners might have liked. But the fact is, there were advancements. Not all episodes have to take major steps in progressing the arc. For example, not all of the Blackgaard Chronicles did that, neither did some of the Novacom episodes. Arcs will have such episodes. It is frustrating because we have long, extended waits between episodes. This episode is potentially setting up clues and hints for next episodes in this saga. In hindsight, this episode will likely be better.
This episode delved into Emily and Matthew’s friendship in a way that suggests Matthew and the Parkers are being written off the show. On the Official Podcast, Dave Arnold seems to hint that the Parkers will be retired. That could be another reason that this episode is important, not specifically to the Rydell Saga but to the overall show.

          2. Point taken! Excellent case. I would still argue that the recording should have at least been brought up, but I do agree that there were advancements in this episode.

  4. Haha, Lee! Honestly, I do agree with you. This series feels like a game of tag. I’m ready for them to delve into everything! I wish they would do whole albums just focused on the Rydell saga, like how they did with Novacom. More waiting is to come.

          1. I agree. But at the same time, it was somewhat exciting! I particularly enjoy the scene with Morrie and Suzu at the end. 😀

  5. Ugh, I know. This completely played with my emotions and I ended up being very disappointed. This felt like a filler episode, but I’m sure there’s something we’re all missing with all of these scenes with Morrie and Suzu. I’m sure clues are being revealed, we just can’t see it yet. But, if it keeps going this way, I’m going to vote that Novacom is the better saga and I might give up on this saga unless it ends up being really good in the end. I’m having some doubts…..when is stuff actually going to be revealed?????

      1. I can see it now…

*words Rydell Saga appear on blue screen as Star Wars theme begins, then words shrink as the crawl starts with:*
        “EPISODE VII
“ *basically Lee’s 4th FFTT Trailer, but adding at the end the conversation Whit and Emily have* ”
*crawl fades as theme swirls to an end, and the ruins of the radio tower from Novacom come into view, with a helicopter holding the Chairman landing*

That’d be the best way to start the episode.

  6. Could someone explain to me how on earth Emily entered the Imagination Station program without going into the Imagination Station? I have listened to the episode four times and I still don’t understand.

  7. I am not saying that I agree with this, I am not sure that it makes the best sense to me, but I would still like to know more about the Suzu mastermind theory! Why do you think that it is Suzu? How does it make sense and what evidence supports it? I am not just talking about “further from the Truth,” but about all of the Morrie episodes! What evidence from all of the Morrie episodes supports it? Which scenario do you think is more likely? 1. Suzu is the mastermind behind Morrie and Morrie is working for Suzu? 2. Morrie is really the one trying to stop Suzu and we are just lead to think that Suzu is the one suspecting and trying to stop Morrie, when in fact, Morrie is really the one suspecting and maybe secretly trying to stop Suzu? I would like to know how many of you think that 1 is more likely and how many of you think that it is 2. Also, what evidence supports your position. I am asking anyone to reply to this, including Lee! I might like this comment to possibly start a discussion about this so I can at least see why it makes the most sense, even if I still decide that I don’t agree!

  8. Younger kids: *listening* have no idea there’s any kind of arc
Us: *listening* Did someone say the Chairman?!?
    🤣

      1. I totally agree, that’s where the joke stemmed from. Most people, if they even know what Novacom is, won’t connect it to it.

  9. I love your sympathy, Lee! I enjoyed hearing your reasons why it was appropriate to say “hate” (I mean, who could ever hate any Odyssey episode?!). I enjoyed “Further From the Truth” quite dearly and I can’t wait to hear the rest of the saga and see how everything connects. By the way, you sound like you could be in audio drama! You’re very expressive!!

          1. You could make the next Ceiling Fan!! The AIO community needs more parody podcasts! XD

  10. After reading various comments of AIO fans from various places, I am really looking forward to hearing Episodes 884 and 885 of the Adventures in Odyssey audio series when they air to the public. Though, really all of the six but those two the most. The episode that I am looking forward to hear the least is #880 because the main characters of both plots of that episode aren’t ones that I necessarily enjoy hearing from the most.

  11. Nathan Hoobler told me this information today.

    “Hey Riley,

Yes, there will be more of the Rydell saga in album 69. In fact, the first episode picks up right where “Further from the Truth” left off.”
